Official IIBF links

Everything on this page comes from these sources. Use them directly for anything time-sensitive — registration dates, fee changes and centre lists can all move.

IIBF has migrated to a new digital candidate portal. If an older login URL fails, start from the portal link above.

What JAIIB is, and why bankers take it

JAIIB — Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers — is the flagship entry-level certification of the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance. IIBF states its objective as building the basic knowledge needed for day-to-day banking operations: the role of the financial sector in the economy, banking and financial services, accountancy and financial management, retail banking, wealth management, digital banking products, banking technology and customer relations.

In practice it is the first professional milestone in an Indian banking career, and for most bank employees it is less optional than it looks. It is conducted twice a year, in online mode, and is open only to IIBF members.

Advantages of clearing JAIIB

1. Direct pay benefit

Under the bipartite settlement framework for workmen and the corresponding joint note for officers, acquiring JAIIB carries an advance increment in the pay scale for eligible cadres. Where the required increments are not available in the scale at that stage, the settlement provides for release of Graduation Pay or Professional Qualification Pay instead, with subsequent instalments referenced to that release date.

Be careful with the numbers you read online

Many sites quote exact rupee figures for the JAIIB increment. The actual benefit depends on your cadre, your current stage in the scale, whether increments are available to be released as advance increments, and your own bank's implementing circular. Some banks additionally pay Professional Qualification Pay beyond the settlement provisions.

Check your bank's own circular on advance increments and PQP rather than relying on a generic figure. Your HR or staff union office will have it.

2. Promotion weightage

Most banks award marks or weightage for JAIIB in internal promotion processes, and several treat it as a prerequisite for movement into the junior management grade. This is bank-specific and set out in your promotion policy — worth reading before the cycle you intend to sit.

3. Gateway to CAIIB and beyond

JAIIB is the prerequisite for CAIIB, which carries its own increment benefit and opens specialised electives. There is also a professional conversion route from JAIIB toward the Associate Chartered Banker qualification.

4. Competence that shows at the counter

The syllabus is unusually practical for a certification exam — KYC and AML operations, cheque and negotiable instrument liability, NPA classification, priority sector norms, CBS operations, retail products. Bankers who clear it generally handle customer queries and audit questions with more confidence, because the material is what the branch actually runs on.

5. Long-term compounding

Because the benefit lands in basic pay, it flows through to DA, HRA and other allowances calculated on basic, and onward to provident fund, pension and gratuity. The value of clearing JAIIB early in a career is considerably larger than the first month's difference suggests.

Who can apply

  • The examination is open only to ordinary members of IIBF. Any person working in the banking and finance industry whose employer is an institutional member of the Institute can apply for membership. Sort membership out before the window opens — it is the commonest reason an application fails.
  • Candidates must have passed the 12th standard in any discipline, or its equivalent.
  • IIBF may at its discretion allow a candidate from the clerical or supervisory staff cadre to appear on the recommendation of the branch Manager or officer-in-charge, even without the 12th standard qualification.
  • Subordinate staff of recognised banking and financial institutions who are members may appear, provided they have passed the 12th standard or its equivalent.
  • Non-bankers should look at the DB&F route instead; IIBF operates both credit transfer and conversion facilities from DB&F to JAIIB.

JAIIB November 2026 exam dates

The four papers are held on separate dates in online mode.

Note the shape of this calendar: a three-week gap after Paper 1, then AFM and RBWM on consecutive days. Plan those last two together — there is no recovery day between them.

Registration windows and fees

IIBF staggers the fee by registration week to spread portal traffic. The windows originally published for the November 2026 cycle were as follows (the next cycle is expected to follow the same structure).

Published registration windows — November 2026 cycle (now closed)
WindowDates as publishedFee payable
Week 110–16 August 2026Normal fee
Week 217–23 August 2026Normal fee + ₹100
Week 324–31 August 2026Normal fee + ₹200

IIBF's rules also provide that if a registration date is extended beyond four weeks, the fee for the extended days is the normal fee plus ₹200. Expect the next cycle to follow the same three-tier structure.

Examination fees

Fee per attempt, examination centres in India
AttemptFee
First attempt₹4,000
Second attempt₹1,300
Third attempt₹1,300
Fourth attempt₹1,300
Fifth attempt₹1,300
  • All fees attract convenience charges and applicable taxes on top.
  • You must register separately for every attempt.
  • Fees once paid are not refunded or adjusted on any account.

Exam pattern

  • Questions: approximately 100 objective multiple-choice questions for 100 marks per paper. IIBF may vary the number of questions for a subject.
  • Duration: 2 hours per paper.
  • Mode: online only.
  • Negative marking: none.
  • Medium: Hindi or English, chosen at registration. Change of medium is not permitted at a later stage.
  • Frequency: half-yearly, on pre-announced dates. IIBF may change periodicity depending on industry requirements.

Correction: JAIIB has no negative marking

Several prep sites currently claim a 25% deduction for wrong answers. IIBF's Rules & Syllabus 2026 states plainly, under Pattern of Examination, that there will be no negative marking for wrong answers. The confusion traces to a September 2022 communication signalling its introduction, which was subsequently withheld.

Practical consequence: never leave a question blank. A blank and a wrong answer both score zero, so every guess is free. Reserve your final five minutes to fill every remaining option.

Passing criteria

Route 1 — standard

50 / 100

Minimum 50 marks in each subject.

Route 2 — aggregate concession

45 + 50%

At least 45 marks in each subject with a 50% aggregate across all subjects, in a single attempt, also counts as having completed the examination.

The single-attempt condition is the most misread rule in JAIIB. The concession applies only when the qualifying marks come from one sitting. Clear papers across different attempts and you are held to the plain 50-mark standard in each.

Credit retention

Pass a subject in an attempt and you retain that credit until the time limit for passing the examination expires. You re-sit only what remains — but read the attempt-limit section, because those credits are not permanent.

Class of pass

A class is awarded only to candidates who clear everything in the first physical attempt — meaning they must not have attempted any subject of that examination at any time in the past.

ClassRequirement
First Class with Distinction70% or more in aggregate and 60 or more marks in each subject, in the first physical attempt
First Class60% or more in aggregate and a pass in all subjects, in the first physical attempt
Pass ClassCandidates not fulfilling either of the above

Candidates re-enrolling after exhausting all permissible attempts are awarded Pass class regardless of subsequent marks. Worth knowing before you decide to casually "try one paper this cycle" — that attempt permanently closes the door on a class.

Attempts and time limit

  • 5 attempts within a maximum of 3 years, whichever is earlier, from the date of registration for the first attempt.
  • The five attempts need not be consecutive.
  • An attempt is counted when you apply, irrespective of whether you actually appear. Registering and then skipping still burns an attempt.
  • Six examinations fall within a three-year window, so you will normally be eligible to apply for five of those six.
  • Exhaust five attempts before three years, or let three years pass without using five, and you must re-enrol afresh.
  • On re-enrolment you are not granted credit for subjects passed earlier. You start from zero.
  • Candidates debarred for unfair means have attempts counted during the debarment period.

The trap that catches working bankers

Many register, then hit a transfer, an audit or a busy quarter and quietly skip the exam assuming nothing is lost. It is: that attempt is gone. If your leave or workload looks doubtful, decide before you pay, not after.

The cut-off date rule most candidates miss

IIBF asks questions on recent regulatory developments, but question papers are prepared well in advance, so a cut-off is fixed for which developments can appear.

Examinations conducted duringDevelopments considered up to
March to August of a calendar year31 December of the preceding year
September to February30 June

For the November 2026 papers

These fall in the September-to-February window, so regulatory instructions and developments up to 30 June 2026 are eligible for inclusion. Circulars issued in July 2026 or later fall outside it.

Use this. It bounds your current-affairs revision to a defined period instead of an open-ended one.

Photograph, signature and photo ID specifications

These are strict, and unclear images can get an application rejected. The photo and signature are printed on your ID card, admit letter and certificate.

Upload specifications
ItemDimensionsFile sizeFormat
Photograph100 × 120 px8 KB – 50 KBjpg, 8-bit
Signature140 × 60 px8 KB – 50 KBjpg, 8-bit
Photo ID400 × 420 px8 KB – 300 KBjpg, 8-bit

Photograph requirements

  • Full face from top of hair to bottom of chin, face prominently visible at about 80% of the image, both ears visible.
  • Eyes open, head centred, facing the camera directly.
  • Plain white or off-white background.
  • Not blurred, dim, overexposed, or shadowed on the face.
  • Print clear and undamaged — not torn, creased or marked.
  • No caps, hats, masks or dark glasses. No sunglasses or tinted spectacles, and no hair across the eyes.

Rejected examples in IIBF's own guidance include distracting backgrounds, off-centre framing, washed-out or pixelated colour, looking away, tinted glasses, hair across eyes, closed eyes, caps, masks, selfies, unusual postures and images that are simply too small.

Signature requirements

  • Sign on white paper with a black ink pen, then scan it.
  • The image must be horizontal and clearly visible. Inverted, very small or dark-background signature images are rejected.

Photo ID requirements

  • Clear, readable and verifiable; image horizontal.
  • Rejected examples include unclear or very small IDs, compressed images and truncated IDs.

The practical difficulty nobody warns you about

A 100 × 120 pixel JPEG that must still be at least 8 KB is an awkward target. Most phone photos, once resized to those dimensions, compress far below the 8 KB floor and get rejected for being too small. Resize to the exact pixel dimensions first, then adjust JPEG quality upward until the file lands between 8 KB and 50 KB.

JAIIB examination centre list

You select only the centre. The venue and time slot are allotted by IIBF. There is no provision to change the centre after a successful application, and no request for change will be entertained for any reason — so choose with care. IIBF conducts the examination only at centres where there are 20 or more candidates.

Centre availability can change between cycles, and IIBF has relocated venues at short notice in past cycles. Confirm the current list on the IIBF website at the time you register.

Centre reporting and exam-day rules

Admit letter

  • No admit letter is issued at registration. It becomes available for download 10–15 days before the exam date, under Examination/Courses > Admit Letter on the IIBF site.
  • Log in with your membership or registration number and edit-profile password. Forgotten the password? Use Forgot password / Get Password after entering your number, and a fresh one is emailed to your registered address.
  • Carry a printed copy of the admit letter plus an original photo ID — membership card, Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar, employer's card, PAN, driving licence, voter card or passport.
  • Without both, you will be denied permission to write the examination.
  • The admit letter is valid only for the examination, dates and centre/venue printed on it.

Reporting

  • Reach the venue before the reporting time on your admit letter. No candidate is permitted to enter after the gate-closing time printed there.
  • Occupy the seat allotted to you.
  • Sign the attendance sheet.
  • Log in using the password given in your admit letter. Do not disclose it.
  • No candidate may leave the venue in the first 60 minutes from the scheduled start.
  • Visit the website the day before your exam for any updates on exam, centre or venue.

Calculator

A battery-operated portable calculator is allowed, of any type up to 8 functions — addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentage, square root, tax+ and tax− — and 12 digits. Scientific calculators are not allowed. Attempting to use a calculator with more features than permitted amounts to use of unfair means. Buy a compliant one early and practise AFM on it.

Mobile phones and prohibited items

Mobile phones and other electronic or smart gadgets are not allowed in the examination hall. Mere possession — even switched off or on silent — is deemed to be adoption of unfair means. Books, notes, periodicals, mathematical tables, slide rules and stencils are also prohibited. All rough-work paper must be returned to the invigilator before leaving.

If the exam is delayed

Where a power failure or technical snag delays commencement, candidates must wait for resumption, take up the examination at any alternative venue arranged by the conducting authority, and follow the instructions given.

Post-exam review

IIBF reviews audit-trail reports using scientific methods and examines CCTV footage after the examination. Candidates found adopting unfair means are booked and action is initiated per Institute policy — and reported to the employer bank.

Scribe facility and compensatory time

Candidates who are visually impaired or have low vision, are affected by cerebral palsy with loco-motor impairment affecting writing speed, or are physically handicapped and unable to operate a keyboard and mouse, may use a scribe at their own cost. Compensatory time and scribe facility are available only to these categories.

  • Compensatory time: 20 minutes for every hour of the examination.
  • Only candidates registered in advance for compensatory time receive it — the allowance is system-based and cannot be granted on the day.
  • Apply online via Apply Now > Apply for scribe, not later than 3 days before the examination, and well in advance of that where possible. Apply separately for each attempt and subject where a scribe is needed.
  • Upload an attested copy of the disability certificate from the competent government authority along with the declaration form.
  • The candidate arranges their own scribe at their own cost.
  • The scribe must not be a banker, ex-banker, or working in the BFSI sector, must not be an ordinary member of the Institute, and must not have passed any IIBF course.
  • The scribe must not be professionally qualified in the subject, and their qualification must be at least one step below the candidate's.
  • The scribe must not have appeared, be appearing, or have passed the same exam, and can act for only one candidate per subject per day.
  • Both candidate and scribe give an undertaking in the prescribed format with the scribe's passport-size photograph.
  • Carry the printed permission, original declaration, attested disability certificate, admit letter and ID proofs for both. Reach the venue 15 minutes before reporting time — late reporting is not permitted under any circumstances.
  • The scribe must not answer questions independently. Doing so terminates the session, cancels the result and triggers action against both parties.
  • Using a scribe solely to obtain extra time is not permitted.

The online route is the only valid procedure. Applications submitted through other modes are not entertained.

Study material

IIBF has developed courseware covering the syllabus, published by Macmillan Education India and available in both English and Hindi. Flipbook versions of the JAIIB and CAIIB study books are also available.

IIBF's own advice: don't stop at the courseware

Because banking rules change quickly, IIBF states the courseware should not be treated as the only source. It specifically directs candidates to RBI Master Circulars and Master Directions, the Institute's publications IIBF Vision and Bank Quest, and the websites of RBI, SEBI, BIS, IRDAI and FEDAI.

Read practically: the courseware gets you the concepts; the Master Directions get you the current-developments marks that separate a pass from a first class.

IIBF also facilitates e-learning for all JAIIB papers, with credentials emailed to registered candidates, and organises tutorial and contact programmes at various centres, including online contact classes.

Results and certificate

  • Result advice is hosted on the IIBF website on declaration and downloaded from your profile.
  • A consolidated mark sheet is available for candidates completing an examination with more than one subject, using membership number and edit-profile password.
  • A digitally signed certificate is emailed to your registered address within three weeks of the result declaration.
  • IIBF does not share MCQs or answers — the question bank is the Institute's intellectual property and no correspondence is entertained. There is no answer-key challenge window.
  • Disputes fall only within the jurisdiction of competent courts in Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Mumbai.

Frequently asked questions

Is there negative marking in JAIIB?

No. IIBF's Rules & Syllabus 2026 states there will be no negative marking for wrong answers. Attempt every question.

When does the next JAIIB registration open?

Registration for the November 2026 cycle is closed and the exams are on 1, 22, 28 and 29 November 2026. The next cycle is expected in May/June 2027 — check IIBF’s official notice for registration dates.

How many marks are needed to pass?

50 out of 100 in each subject, or at least 45 in each subject with a 50% aggregate across all subjects in a single attempt.

How many attempts do I get?

Five attempts within a maximum of three years, whichever is earlier, from the date of first registration. An attempt counts when you apply, even if you do not appear.

Do I lose passed subjects if I run out of attempts?

Yes. On re-enrolment after exhausting the time limit or attempts, you are not granted credit for subjects passed earlier.

Can I change my exam centre after applying?

No. There is no provision to change the centre in the system after a successful application, and no request will be entertained for any reason.

Can I write JAIIB in Hindi?

Yes. Choose Hindi or English at registration. The medium cannot be changed later. Official courseware is published in both languages.

Can I use a scientific calculator?

No. Only a battery-operated portable calculator up to 8 functions and 12 digits is permitted. Anything more is treated as unfair means.

What is the photograph size for JAIIB registration?

100 × 120 pixels, jpg 8-bit, between 8 KB and 50 KB, on a plain white or off-white background with both ears visible and no cap, mask or tinted glasses.

How much increment does JAIIB give?

The settlement framework provides an advance increment for eligible cadres, with Graduation Pay or Professional Qualification Pay released where increments are not available in the scale. The exact amount depends on your cadre, stage in scale and your bank's circular — check that circular rather than a generic figure.

Which paper should I attempt first?

Working bankers usually find PPB most intuitive because it maps onto daily branch work. AFM needs the longest runway due to its numerical load. IE&IFS and RBWM reward keeping up with current developments.
